Introduction to Backpacking.

Assalamualaikum, readers!

I apologizeeeeee for not blogging anymore. I am back now in 2018! I will try to keep blogging more.  Apologies for that matter.

This time I am back with something that I want to share.  I attended a 1-day workshop just now.  It is called "Introduction to Backpacking " by The Tudung Traveller Academy or she is known as Atikah Amalina.

All of the things I shared below were notes I jot down. Once I receive a pdf file from her or according to her an e-book, I will share with you the additional notes, alright?

Here it goes:

5 Things when choosing a Backpack
1. Size - litres
Maximum 50litres, you don't need too much unless you are going up the mountain.

2. Access - Top-loading/U-Zip
Top Loading is the one you bukak from the top.

U-Zip is like opening a suitcase which is much more easier to arrange your items.

Recommended to buy: U-Zip

3. Straps - Hip Belt
Make sure it is padded not netted.
Use of it: the weight of your bag will transfer from your shoulders to your hip.

4. Material - water resistant
Make sure it can dry faster when it rains.

5. Comfort
Get a backpack that fits you. There are women backpack nowadays that fit our body shapes.  Generally women have short torso, thus it is designed for us!

But if you have long torso like me, men backpack is the answer. Because it fits perfectly for me.

And when you buy a backpack, make sure ask the person to pull it down when you are carrying it.

This is to see whether you can carry it still and be comfortable when it is heavy.

How do you pack?
1. Length of trip
- just pack for 1 week even though you are going for 5 days trip.

2. Durability of your clothes
- Iron free

3. Climates & Weather
- Especially winter/rainy weather

4. Activities
- What kind of activities you will be doing?  Depending on your activities.

5. OOTD
- like once a while

6. Food
- buns/biscuits/maggi

When packing:

1. Pack light- 3:3:3
- 3 tops: 3 bottoms : 3 hijabs
- Those wearing hijabs, you can have 3 printed hijabs and extra 1 basic plain colour.
All of this for 1 week.  Because you can mix and match.

2. Use travel cubes instead of ziplocks.
- roll your clothings and put it inside cubes.
- ‎reason being, ziplocks are noisy especially when you walk into your hostel late, it might disturb people and also it is see through especially your undergarments.

3. You can wash your clothes. They usually have laundry room.

Travel hack: Keep a fabric freshener. It is important. And bring your own powder detergent.

4. Invest on plug extensions.
You can charge more than 1 item.

The placement of your items.
From Bottom to top:
1. Put your shoes at the bottom compartment with the zip.
2. ‎Inside your backpack:
Bottom - You can put your pants with undergarments in one cube so that will be at the bottom.

Followed by:  Your tops

Lastly: your toiletries because it is the heaviest with your all sorts of creams. You can put this in the ziplock to prevent leakage.

When you carry your backpack, if you feel that you going backwards that means the top part of your backpack is heavy so rearrange.

If you feel that it is pulling you down that means the bottom part of your backpack is heavy so rearrange.

Rearrange until you can stand on your own being comfortable.

What are your fears/worries when it comes to backpacking?

1. Safety
Getting Lost
- Google Maps (pin your location/hostel) even if there is no wifi
- Calm down first then think.
- ‎Backtrack, look around you.
- ‎Be sensible, dont walk into alleys,  don't put yourself in danger.

First Day after check in
- Explore your area of hostels.
- ‎understand your landmarks.

Have softcopies of your important documents so if you lost your passport, you have this softcopies to go to the embassy.

Theft
Trust your gut feeling.
Don't be aggressive

Bring debit card.

2. Authority
- do not retaliate
- ‎be as nice as possible

3. Language Barrier
- the best communication is gesture/action and love.
- ‎google translate

4. Halal food
- it varies with your own beliefs
- to you, what is halal food?
To me, it is non pork.  I can eat seafood.
- bring your own utensils so you don't need to sertu cause its yours.

All in all, I hope you will learn something new and hope it benefits you like how it did benefits me.

That's all for now. I will add the additional notes  with a different colour when I got the pdf file.

With that, let me leave this statement here first.

"If you are feeling lost or scared or whatever you are feeling at that point of time when things messed up during your trip or even in your daily life, first thing first is to acknowledge the feelings first. Then you can move on. " - Atikah Amalina
